在當今時代，博物館的任務日新月, 異博物館不再是讓觀眾消極看看藝術名作或科學創作的地方現代博物館已成為綜合性文化中心：除了典藏研究、保存與展示以外，博物館也是教育、娛樂、訪客服務、和經濟發展的地方。

博物館具有服務社區的責任。當面臨爭議的時候，特別對少數民族或原住民的關係，博物館負責人必須聽從社區的聲音然後馬上改變政策。這樣的理想，只有在能反應社區多元化的展覽、指路牌、活動中實現。

受到社交媒體的影響，人們對展覽有較高的美學期待，視覺設計是拉近觀眾距離的關鍵要素之一。如果展覽有很重要的訊息要傳達，但若因為設計不好而導致觀眾看不懂，是不是太浪費了？由此可見，博物館設計師必須講求理論與實務並重，了解是以博物館全方位為目的。成功的視覺設計有能力傳達複雜的故事並且讓觀眾在藝術和歷史中找到自己的故事。

In the current age, the role of museums are changing with each passing day, no longer places for passive viewing of art or scientific discoveries, contemporary museums are changing into complex cultural places. Aside from the original goals of researching, protecting, and showcasing their collection, museums are also a space of education, recreation, visitor services, and economic development.

Museums have a responsibility to serve the community. If faced with controversy, especially from minority or indigenous visitors, museums should listen carefully and implement policy changes. These ideals can only be realized in a museum where the exhibitions, signage, and events reflect the diversity found in their audience. (where the audience can see themselves represented in the exhibition, signage, and events.


Museum design is an essential factor of accessibility, because of the influence of social media people expect museums to  have a high aesthetic value. Even if the exhibit is full of important information, if the design is bad then the information will not be passed on to the viewer. Museum designers should give equal consideration to theory and practice, as well as understanding the holistic mission of the museum. If the design is successful, then it has the power to express complicated stories and invite museum visitors to think deeply about their own part in art and history.
